SHAKESPEARE IN THE SUN
Published:Tuesday 22 June 2010We've got lots of fun and exciting things happening in our parks during the summer so why not take the opportunity to break away from the football by taking in some outdoor theatre, starting this weekend with Chapterhouse Theatre Company's version of A Midsummer Night's Dream at Sconce and Devon Park? One of Shakespeare's most enchanting plays, a fairytale of love and dreams with a sprinkling of the Bard's good humour, A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy the whole family can enjoy. Tickets cost £12 for adults, £8 for children. On August 18, Chapterhouse bring the second of their Shakespearian offerings to the district this summer when they perform The Merchant of Venice at Newark Castle and Gardens. Tickets are again £12 for adults and £8 for children. Bring a rug or chair to enjoy these outdoor performances. Sconce Fest will celebrate all that is great about Newark's largest open space with an event with just a hint of a Civil War theme on July 3/4. Come along for a look at some of the many improvements made to the park as part of a £1.6m regeneration scheme. The much-imprioved park, which includes toilets, a café, ranger's office, new play area and a bridge to the historic Queen's Sconce, will be officially opened later this summer. | ||
